This is how to support Local Artisans. We’re very pleased to get a special mention in the Northern Advocate in the lead up to the Artisan Affair happening 6-7 September, 2024 at the Te Ahu Centre in Kaitaia.

We are going to be there with a range of beautiful products, many of which are not listed on our site. We’ve been busy preparing to get things underway and will have EFTPOS available.

Craft fairs are vital spaces for artisans like us, offering unique opportunities to showcase what we’re good at, connect with customers, and build a sustainable business. These events provide a platform where artisans can directly engage with their audience, share their stories, and cultivate a loyal customer base.

One of the primary benefits of craft fairs is the ability for artisans to showcase the quality and craftsmanship of their products. Unlike online platforms, fairs allow customers to see, touch, and experience products firsthand. This interaction is crucial in establishing trust and appreciation for the skill and artistry involved in creating handmade goods.

Moreover, craft fairs provide a valuable platform for artisans to tell the story behind their creations. They can explain their techniques, inspirations, and the passion that fuels their work. This personal connection resonates with customers, fostering a deeper appreciation for the products and the artisan’s dedication.

Direct customer feedback is another invaluable aspect of craft fairs. Artisans can engage in conversations, answer questions, and gain insight into customer preferences. This direct interaction allows them to refine their offerings, identify new trends, and adapt their businesses to meet the market’s needs.

Craft fairs also play a critical role in supporting the local economy. By purchasing directly from artisans, customers contribute to the livelihoods of local makers and their communities. This support helps artisans sustain their businesses, invest in their craft, and continue creating unique, high-quality products.

In addition to economic benefits, craft fairs foster a sense of community and connection. They provide a space for artisans to interact, collaborate, and share knowledge. The camaraderie among makers strengthens the local creative scene and encourages innovation.

How to Support Artisans at Craft Fairs:

  1. Attend and Explore: Make time to visit craft fairs in your area. Engage with artisans, learn about their processes, and discover unique treasures.
  2. Purchase Handmade: Invest in handmade products, knowing that your purchase directly supports an artisan’s livelihood and creative journey.
  3. Spread the Word: Share your discoveries on social media, tell your friends and family, and help raise awareness about the talented artisans in your community.
  4. Offer Feedback: Engage in conversations with artisans, ask questions, and provide constructive feedback. Your input is valuable and helps them grow.
  5. Respect Their Work: Recognize the time, skill, and dedication that goes into each creation. Be mindful of pricing and understand the value of handmade goods.

By supporting artisans like us at craft fairs, you contribute to a vibrant creative ecosystem, encourage the preservation of traditional crafts, and help sustain local economies. These events are a testament to the power of human creativity and the importance of cherishing the artistry that surrounds us.
